Change basket.

I have a little wire tray on my desk where I empty the contents of my pockets at night. It tends to accumulate a pretty odd assortment of artifacts. At the moment, the contents appear to include:

Chapstick, a paper clip, a binder clip, ample coinage, a watch (the one I don't wear to work), a lighter (no, I don't smoke), dental floss, a coil of picture wire, a 3/8" flat washer (it's surprising there aren't more of these), a keychain LED flashlight (usually on my key ring, but it needs a new battery), some cold medicine, nail clippers, a pair of collar stays (I should probably look for the shirt they belong in), a piece of black tie line (ask anyone who's worked backstage--they'll understand), scissors, keys to my parents' respective houses, green electrical tape, a 5/16" screw pin anchor shackle (a common item, though I have no idea why this one is spray painted gold), two wire ties (to go with the shackle), and what appears to be a small stone. Let me know if you spot anything I've missed...

Self portrait - reflection in cell phone.

While sitting in front of my computer, I started playing around with the reflection in the face of my phone. One thing led to another and I ended up with this self portrait to start off my new Daily Photos gallery.

It seems my lens could have used some cleaning...

Blue clock in the dark.

The way light refracts through water glasses - especially the cool blue glow from my alarm clock - mesmerizes me. Someday maybe I'll manage to do it justice in a photo.

Gravestone.

Today was my grandmother's yahrzeit. She passed away last December at the age of 88. Since I had the day off, I was able to make the hour-and-a-half drive to visit the cemetery. No one else in the family lives near enough to visit easily, so it meant a great deal to my mother and uncle that I had been there - more than I had quite realized when I decided to go. I hope to speak to my grandfather tomorrow and let him know. I didn't realize the gravestone had been placed; it turns out I was the first in the family to see it.

Canoes along canal.

Took advantage of a beautiful day off for walk along the canal. I was really hoping to spot the neighborhood great blue heron, but no such luck. Didn't get any really exciting shots, but I think this one is nice. It's funny how you can completely fail to see things like that annoying tree branch when you're framing a shot, and then they pop up later and irk you to no end--not that there was much I could have done to avoid it in this case.

Q-tip.

My friend Lindsay had some people over for a lazy brunch and much-needed day away from work yesterday. This is her cat, Q-tip.

Flyrail.

While Matt Pilsner was getting the lag screws removed from his leg today, I was filling in for him at work. This is HIS flyrail - I usually work next door in the other theater (here's a shot of MY flyrail), so this is a slight change of scenery for me. No pun intended. Basically, pulling a rope flies a pipe up or down over the stage, along with whatever lights, scenery, or other equipment happen to be hanging on the pipe. The stacks of steel counterweight behind the ropes ride up and down opposite the pipe to balance the load.

Last I heard, Matt was out of his surgery and headed to the bar for a chicken quesadilla. I'm looking forward to a daily photo of his newly liberated lag screws!

Take only photographs...

I went out hiking with my roommate at nearby Bald Pate Mountain, which has the rather dubious distinction of being the highest point in Mercer County, NJ (elevation somewhere between 480 and 500 feet). It's not exactly a wilderness area, as evidenced by the neatly mowed grass around this tree near the top, but still a nice place to get out in the woods for a bit.

Eggs and salt.

Here's another dinner-inspired shot, but this one was posed in the studio, as opposed to last night's candid. My studio consists of a black dish towel (or fleece, or whatever's handy) spread on my desk, with my desk lamp close at hand. I like the gradients of light-shade-shadow on the round forms of the eggs. I took some some shots both with and without the salt in the background. I can't decide if it adds to or detracts from the composition. Opinions?
