Self-portrait in front of window.

I haven't done a lot of self-portraits, and for some reason I had an urge to today. It really needs a little space between the top of my head and the edge of the frame. Aside from that, I like this shot. I was feeling kind of moody, and I think that came out well.

Lineset twenty-four, third electric.

This is what I do at work. It's a shot of the flyrail in the theater, from which everything that hangs over the stage is flown in and out. Every red brake handle secures a lineset that flies a pipe over the stage, carrying lighting equipment, scenery, or anything else that needs to be hung. There are 51 linesets in the space, and with up to five different shows requiring different configurations of lighting and soft goods in the course of a busy week, it gets to be a challenge to keep track of what has move where for which day.

Self portrait with backlight.

I guess I had self portraits on my mind after commenting on Hillary's shot this morning. Apparently I only have one mood for self portraits though...

Omelet fixings.

While I was making breakfast this morning, I decided to see if I still remember how to use my camera.

Tree with evening sunlight and reflection.

I got out for a walk this evening with the new camera and lens. The 18-270 has its trade-offs - the cost of such a long zoom range - but I'm enjoying it nonetheless. Even with its shortcomings, it's still a step up in quality from the kit lenses I've been using. The only really worrisome issue is that I periodically get an error code and have to power the camera off and on to clear it. VERY bothersome. I cleaned the lens contacts and I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping it will solve the problem.

I really like this shot. When I took this, the last of the sunlight was filtering through the trees and highlighting little patches of the opposite bank. Metering for the brightly lit tree trunk gave the surrounding area a dark aspect, and I love the way the tree and its reflection pop out so strongly. The shot is very nearly SOOC -- the only PP was to tone down the spots of reflected sky near the bottom of the frame.

Flowering tree.

I'm not sure what kind of tree this is, but there are several right outside my apartment. I shot this from my balcony.

Brewpub entrance.

I took this shot of my friends as we were walking out of the trendy local brewpub. It was pretty rushed, so the quality isn't superb, but I like the light and perspective.

Footbridge on the canal.

I bundled up and went for a walk along the D&R Canal this afternoon. At one point there's a golf course that straddles the canal and a couple of footbridges that link the two sides of the course. There's even a sign on the canal path warning you to watch for flying golf balls as you walk by. The low winter sun was coming right along the canal and really accentuated the textures in the bridge from this angle.

Doorknob.

It was a perfect day for opening the doors and windows and enjoying the fresh air. This isn't a fantastic composition, but I like details of doors. I think they carry a sense of mystery and suspense.
